Half Term Update: Heads of School

Hi everyone!

We wanted to say that it has been a great start to the year, and we have absolutely loved welcoming students, both old and new, back to Scarborough College. We hope everyone has enjoyed these first six weeks, as they really have flown by! However, we have a well-deserved two-week break, which we’re sure everyone is both excited and relieved about.

This term has already been extremely busy, from our Open Day in October to sporting success. Every pupil has been involved in some part of school life, which is lovely to see.

We all took part in Hello Yellow Day on 9 October, when we raised nearly £850 for the YoungMinds charity – a fantastic amount. YoungMinds is such an important charity because it puts a real focus and raises awareness about mental health among young people. With the national rise in mental health issues in young people, we believe that it is very important to promote the work of YoungMinds in schools. It was amazing to see all our pupils and teachers wearing yellow and having meaningful conversations in the classroom to support the work of such a great cause.

Earlier in the term, we welcomed many families to our annual Open Day, which took place on Saturday 3 October. Our team of staff, tour guides and subject ambassadors worked exceptionally hard to create a friendly atmosphere and successfully welcome potential future pupils to the school. Families had the opportunity to really experience life here – going into classrooms and meeting teachers, exploring subjects and sports facilities, finding out about boarding, talking to teachers and much more, helping them to truly grasp what Scarborough College is all about. Thank you to everyone involved!

As usual, this term has been very busy with Sports, with many pupils participating in fixtures from Year 3 in the Prep School through to the high standards of the first teams. For example the Boys’ 1st Rugby XV squad recently travelled to the Merchiston Castle Festival in Scotland, a prestigious tournament where the boys did extremely well and won the Bowl Final. The hockey season has also kicked off successfully, with teams taking part in friendlies against high profile teams such as Durham University, alongside the initial stages of local and national competitions. The Cricket Centre of Excellence has continued to thrive throughout the term, with individuals making use of small-group indoor sessions, keeping the teams practicing throughout the off season.

We look forward to returning in November for another eventful half term and hope everyone enjoys their two-week holiday!
