Half Term Update – Head of Prep School

It has been a brilliant start to the academic year for the Prep School! The first six weeks have been full of energy and enthusiasm, with our pupils embracing everything school life has to offer.

It has been wonderful to see the children settling into their new classes, building friendships and throwing themselves into their learning. Beyond the classroom, we have enjoyed an exceptionally busy programme of activities, with more than 20 trips and visits and 30 sporting fixtures taking place during the half term. These experiences are such an important part of a Prep School education, giving our pupils the space to develop confidence and learn together beyond the classroom. Whether representing the school on the sports field or exploring somewhere new, our children have given their all at every opportunity.

None of this would be possible without the commitment and dedication of our staff. I would like to thank the whole team for the energy, care and enthusiasm they have brought to the start of the year. In particular, thanks to Mrs Rackham, who stepped in so brilliantly to help during Mrs Cross’s absence. I am enormously grateful to everyone who has worked to ensure that all the children have enjoyed such a positive and rewarding start to the year.

However, one particular event this half term has really summed up this school to me. The Harvest Festival assembly, held in the new Lisvane Theatre, captured so much of what makes our school community special.

The theatre was filled with pupils and staff, including a number of Sixth Formers who, originally asked to remain in their tutor groups, persuaded Mr Emmett to let them join us! For the Year 13 students, this would be their last Harvest Festival – a sense of nostalgia for those who were a part of the Prep School seven years ago.

We were also overwhelmed by the generosity of our parents, whose donations of food were passed to the Rainbow Centre. These contributions will help the charity continue its important work supporting some of the most vulnerable people in our local community. Thank you to everyone who contributed so generously.

Finally, our Prep School children sang beautifully in front of an audience of around 400 pupils. They performed with real confidence and pride, demonstrating the self-belief that we work so hard to nurture in every child.

Thank you to our pupils, staff and parents for making the start of this academic year so positive. I hope everyone enjoys a well-deserved rest, and I look forward to welcoming the children back for another exciting half term.
