As another academic year comes to a close, we are incredibly proud of our Year 13 leavers as they complete their International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme and prepare for exciting new adventures beyond Scarborough College.
This year’s cohort has worked exceptionally hard, demonstrating resilience, determination and ambition throughout their Sixth Form journey. Their achievements extend far beyond academic success. Many have played leading roles within the school community as prefects, committee chairs and student leaders, while others have embraced opportunities through the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, sport, performing arts, charity fundraising and international exchange programmes.
Most importantly, they have formed friendships and memories that will last a lifetime.
Reflecting on her time at the College, Jess described the friendships she has made as one of the highlights of her experience. “I’ve made so many, I hope, friends for life.”
For Dieko, a Senior Prefect and Co-Chair of the Charity Committee, the sense of community stood out most. “The best part of being here at Scarborough College are the friendships that I’ve made. I feel like I’ve become close with a lot of amazing people.”
Our students have also embraced leadership opportunities, helping to shape life at the College for younger pupils. Zoi served as Head of the TEDx Committee and Senior Prefect, while Anouk led the student community as Head of School and Jess took on the role one of the Deputy Heads of School, championing initiatives such as peer mentoring and student wellbeing.
Alongside their studies, students have excelled outside the classroom. From Gold Duke of Edinburgh expeditions and international exchanges to county-level sport and charitable fundraising, they have fully embraced the opportunities available to them.
For Seth, one of the standout moments was his cricket exchange to New Zealand. “It was absolutely amazing. I’d probably say it’s the best two months of my life.”
The Class of 2026 now look ahead to a remarkable range of destinations and opportunities.
Several students are progressing to leading universities, including the London School of Economics, Durham University, the University of Nottingham and the University of Surrey. Others have secured prestigious degree apprenticeships or are taking gap years to pursue sporting, creative and professional ambitions.
Charlie will begin a Degree Apprenticeship with Rolls-Royce in Nuclear Engineering, while Darcy is taking a gap year to gain further experience in automotive and superyacht design after already completing work experience with Aston Martin.
Meanwhile, Will is heading to Australia to continue developing his photography and gain international industry experience, and Seth will spend time playing rugby in both the UK and New Zealand.
These diverse pathways are a reflection of the breadth of opportunities that the IB Diploma helps to unlock. Students repeatedly highlighted how the programme prepared them not only for higher education, but also for independent thinking, research and real-world problem-solving.
Jess, who hopes to study Veterinary Medicine at the University of Nottingham, explained how her IB studies directly supported her ambitions. “My subjects through the IB have really helped me with that, especially Biology and Chemistry, and my Extended Essay really gave me an insight into research projects I’ll be expected to undertake at University.”
As they prepare to leave Scarborough College, we also asked our leavers what advice they would give to future IB students.
Their responses were both practical and encouraging.
Aiden’s advice was simple:”Get your IAs and EE done as soon as possible.”
Zoi encouraged students to stay focused on their long-term goals: “Know why you’re here and what you want to achieve.”
Charlie offered reassurance to those about to begin the programme: “Trust the process because everything comes together in the end.”
And Anouk perhaps summed up the Scarborough College experience best of all: “Scarborough is what you make of it.”
As our Class of 2026 leaves Scarborough College, they do so with much to be proud of. They have excelled academically, contributed to the life of the school, formed lifelong friendships and embraced opportunities that have helped shape them into confident young adults.
We wish every one of them the very best for the future and look forward to following their successes in the years ahead.
