Prep School Prize Giving Celebrates a Year of Achievement

The Scarborough College Prep School and Little Owls Nursery community came together on Saturday 4 July for the annual Prize Giving ceremony, celebrating the many achievements of pupils across the year groups.

The event opened beautifully with a performance from the Prep School Chamber Choir, who sang Glow by Eric Whitacre, arranged by our Head of Prep School Music, Miss Anna Dias. The children sang beautifully, creating a lovely start to the occasion.

Guests then heard from Chair of Governors, Guy Robinson, who reflected on the wider independent school sector and shared Scarborough College’s vision for the future. His speech was followed by a wonderful performance from the Year 6 Performance Band, who delighted the audience with a brilliant rendition of Bruno Mars’ Count on Me.

Head of Prep, Mr Chris Barker, then looked back on the year as a whole, reflecting on the highlights, successes and memorable moments that have shaped the past twelve months. In particular, he paid tribute to the Year 6 pupils as they prepare to move on to Senior School, celebrating the contribution they have made to Prep life and all they have achieved during their time here.

There was also a heartfelt moment as Mr Barker thanked members of staff who are leaving the Prep School this summer: Mr Dan Robson, Head of Sport in the Prep School; Miss Marsden, Teaching Assistant; and Mrs Hogg, Nursery Teacher. Their dedication, care and contribution to school life have meant so much to pupils, colleagues and families alike, and they will be greatly missed.

This year’s guest speaker was children’s author and West End stage actor Emma Swan, who gave an inspiring and uplifting address about the importance of failure, resilience and having the courage to keep going when things do not go to plan. Her message about learning from mistakes and finding confidence through challenge was a powerful one, and a perfect fit for the occasion. We were also delighted to welcome Miss Swan into school the day before, when she led a creative writing workshop with our Year 4 pupils.

The prize giving itself was a wonderful celebration of talent, effort and achievement across the Prep School and Nursery. From academic progress and sporting success to creativity, kindness and perseverance, it was a pleasure to recognise so many pupils for all they have contributed this year.

Thank you to all the parents, staff and pupils who joined us and helped make the event such a special occasion.
