Welcome to
Little Owls

I am delighted to welcome you to Little Owls Pre-School. We hope this page give you all the information you need before you join our warm and friendly nursery.

At Little Owls, we combine the best aspects of a traditional nursery with a rich programme of learning and play, designed for boys and girls from the age of three. Our focus is on nurturing essential skills, building confidence, and supporting all-round development. As highlighted in a recent Inspection Report, “an outstanding start is provided in the Foundation Stage.”

Every day at Little Owls is an opportunity for creativity, imagination, and discovery. Our dedicated staff ensure each child enjoys a happy, stimulating introduction to school life. With a 1:8 staff-to-child ratio, we are able to support curiosity, engagement, and the joy of learning.

About
Little Owls Pre-School

At Little Owls, we recognise that learning at this age is best supported through structured play. Our purpose-built facilities, including a shaded terrace and spacious grassed playing fields, provide an inspiring environment for exploration and discovery. As children grow, we gradually introduce more formal learning experiences, tailored to their developing skills and interests.

A key advantage of being part of Scarborough College is access to our Junior and Senior School staff, allowing children to benefit from high-quality specialist teaching in subjects such as music, swimming, dance, PE, French and more. This combination of play-based and specialist learning ensures a well-rounded start to every child’s educational journey.

Inside the
classroom

As an independent pre-school, Little Owls has the flexibility to shape its own curriculum. While we fully support the Department of Education’s Early Years programme, we enrich it with a wide variety of learning opportunities to support all areas of a child’s development. In the classroom, children explore language, literacy, numeracy, creative arts, and science through hands-on activities, structured play, and specialist teaching. Small class sizes allow our dedicated staff to nurture individual curiosity, confidence, and independence, ensuring every child reaches their full potential.

Beyond
the Door

A key element of our approach is the Yorkshire Pebbles outdoor learning programme, which includes Forest School sessions and exciting experiences such as surfing on Scarborough North Bay. These activities help the children to build resilience, teamwork, and a love of the natural world.

Going beyond the classroom door is such an important part of the Scarborough College ethos, which is encouraged throughout the entire school. We are delighted to start this love of the outdoors at such a young age.
