Senior School

Welcome from our
Heads of Tier

As Heads of Tier, we are delighted to introduce ourselves as the first point of contact for your child’s academic and pastoral journey at Scarborough College.

Mrs Colbourne (Year 7), Ms Galway (Years 8–9) and Mr White (Years 10–11) work closely together to ensure that every student feels supported, valued and encouraged to achieve their best. Our role is to guide pupils through these important years, helping them to develop confidence, resilience and a love of learning. We are also here for you as parents, ensuring open communication and a strong partnership between home and school. Above all, our aim is to create a positive, caring environment where your child can be happy, healthy and thrive. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if we can support you or your child in any way.

About the
Senior School

Students start their Senior School journey in Year 7 but entry points also include Years 9 and 10, and overseas students can choose a one-year Pre-IB in Year 11.

Early years in Senior School focus on continuing a love of learning with, as one of its highlights, the Yorkshire Grit Programme. This provides students with a solid foundation for GCSE success in Years 10 and 11.

Years 7-9

Inside the
Classroom

A love of learning is central to Years 7, 8 and 9. In addition to the core subjects, Students are offered a wide variety of lessons including two foreign languages (French and Spanish), The Arts and all three sciences.

Classrooms start with 16 – 20 students and then decrease in size towards Year 9. This provides students with a dynamic classroom environment with plenty of friendship opportunities, whilst also offering a lot of pastoral and academic support.

Beyond
the Door

There are a variety of classrooms at Scarborough College and many of them do not have four walls and a roof. Our award-winning Yorkshire Grit programme provides weekly adventures that build resilience and life-skills.

Beyond the door of the classroom, students also go on numerous trips for subjects such a Geography, History, Music and Drama just to name a few.

Years 10-11

Inside the
Classroom

With your GCSE subjects chosen, it is time to focus on your first serious exams. At Scarborough College, small class sizes and a great deal of academic support mean results that rival many a selective school.

In addition to the core Maths and English, you will typically study at least one modern foreign language as well as all the sciences, in preparation for the IB Diploma Programme in our Sixth Form.

Beyond
the Door

Field trips, outdoor education as well as both sporting and cultural activities continue to thrive during your GCSE years. Students may also be selected for the lead on stage or the highly competitive representative teams in the different sports.

With Yorkshire Grit finished, you may wish to turn your head (and your hiking boots) to the Duke of Edinburgh programme. Typically, around half of all GCSE students participate in the Silver Programme.
