Welcome back! I hope you had a restful and enjoyable half-term break. As we look ahead, the coming weeks promise to be busy and exciting – from the U18s Rugby 7s tournament that was held on Wednesday, the Wicked workshops with various visiting primary schools and the TedX talks next Friday, to the Prep School visit to Peat Rigg this weekend and the LAMDA exams in early March, there are many opportunities for our children to excel.
This week, we were delighted to welcome Mrs Francesca Porter, wife of our newly appointed Senior Deputy Head, Mr Matthew Porter, along with their two sons, Theo and Frankie. The boys were able to spend time with their new classmates ahead of their official start in September and we are thrilled to have the Porter family joining our community.
Matthew brings with him a wealth of experience and a strong commitment to pastoral care and academic excellence. Currently the Assistant Head Pastoral at the British International School of Houston, Matthew oversees the wellbeing of nearly 600 secondary students at one of the world’s premier international schools. His background includes senior leadership roles at esteemed HMC boarding and day schools in the UK, including Denstone College and Milton Abbey. With an Honours Degree in History and Politics from the University of Durham and a PGCE in Secondary History from Exeter University, Matthew is also an outstanding academic teacher.
Beyond his professional achievements, Matthew is a passionate sports enthusiast, coaching rugby and cricket to a high standard. During his time in the United States, he developed a love for all things ‘Americana,’ particularly minor league baseball, with his family proudly supporting the Sugarland Space Cowboys.
We are also excited to welcome Francesca, a highly respected netball coach who brings her expertise from coaching Team America. Francesca previously served as Director of Sport and Co-Curricular at Denstone College, where she led BTEC PE, netball, and tennis programmes. Her passion for sport and commitment to nurturing young talent will be a wonderful addition to our school.
It was wonderful to meet the boys and Francesca in person and we look forward to the Porter family becoming an integral part of Scarborough College, bringing their considerable experience and enthusiasm to our community.
With so much ahead of us in the calendar, I wish you all an inspiring and productive half term. Let’s embrace the busy weeks ahead with energy and optimism!
