Remco Weeda has been Scarborough College’s Director of Marketing and Admissions since August 2019. He brings with him over 15 years’ experience in International education marketing and recruitment. Prior to moving to the United Kingdom in 2019, Mr Weeda worked in Belgium, Denmark and The Netherlands. Remco’s first step into international education was when he joined a summer camp in Dorset as Teacher of English in 2003.
When Remco’s wife Jolene took over as houseparent at Willersley, he automatically became houseparent number two. Whereas Jolene looks after the girls together with her assistant, Remco is mainly responsible for house quizzes, barbecues, airport runs and a steady flow of disastrously bad 80s music. Remco and Jolene have one daughter, Maartje, who is currently in Year 5 at the Scarborough College Prep School.
When Remco took over as Centre Manager of the summer camp, in 2004, he was asked to go in goal during one of the staff v student matches. He has not looked back since that one fateful evening. When time permits, Remco keeps for Scarborough Hockey Club and he coaches the young goalies at the College. Maartje, who was born after the London Olympics in 2012, was named after one of the players of the Dutch gold-winning squad, Maartje Paumen. In his spare time, Remco enjoys reading and cooking. Remco’s mango curry was voted best mango curry of Willersley House 2021.
During his time working in language travel marketing, Mr Weeda has travelled extensively in South America, Europe and Asia. He speaks five languages of which fluently Dutch, English and Danish. The other two he would rather not mention as he does not master them very well at all.
