Welcome to the fourth concert in our 2026 Recital Programme.

Hafren are a Manchester based, folk-inspired string duo comprised of Mabon Jones (violin/guitar) and Daniel Springate (cello). Named after the river that divides their two homelands, Hafren perform an eclectic mix of music fuelled by their wide-ranging musical influences and inspirations, from contemporary classical works through to their own compositions and arrangements of Celtic folk tunes.
Since debuting at Manchester International Festival in 2023, they’ve performed and curated headline shows, supported folk duo Thorpe and Morrison for parts of their UK tour, and performed at Manchester Classical Festival 2025. Mabon and Daniel are both active in the Manchester music scene performing with Manchester Camerata and Kaleidoscope Orchestra, and are passionate educators, working at Chetham’s Music School, Olympias Music Foundation and music services around Greater Manchester.
Hafren will be performing ‘Stone, Salt and Sky’ by Sally Beamish alongside works by Zoltan Kodaly, Rebecca Clarke and their own arrangements.
