Welcome to our new woodwind teacher

We are delighted to welcome our new woodwind teacher, Ms Amanda Bond. Ms Bond has over 20 years experience in teaching music, and will be teaching saxophone and clarinet lessons across the school. We asked her a few questions about her career so far and why she loves teaching music.

Tell us about your career so far

I am a fully qualified music teacher with 20 years of experience teaching music in North Yorkshire. My background includes both full-class instruction and individual lessons for children of all ages. Additionally, I serve as the musical director for various ensembles at The Scarborough Music Centre and participate in musical theatre productions as a performer. In addition to my music and teaching qualifications, I hold an MSc in Psychology and specialise in helping musicians manage performance anxiety as a positive psychology coach.

What will you be doing at the College?

I am excited to join the SC Music Department as a clarinet and saxophone teacher, and currently have openings for students from both the Prep and Senior Schools.

Why do you believe learning an instrument is so important?

As a musician, teacher, and psychologist, I believe that making music is an essential part of the human experience. Not only is it a fun and rewarding creative outlet, but numerous research studies have shown that playing an instrument can enhance social skills, improve cognitive abilities and memory, boost mood, and promote mental well-being.
