Careers Education and Guidance Service
Scarborough College is committed to providing its students with a high quality careers education and guidance service. A professionally qualified Careers Advisor, Mrs Anna Lowe, conducts one-to-one interviews during Years 10 and 11 as a basis for exploring students’ interests and assisting them in researching appropriate courses and pathways.
Careers Guidance interviews are available in the form of short drop-in sessions at break or lunchtime, or more detailed guidance interviews which are arranged in advance.
Sixth Form Careers and Future Opportunities
There is a strong emphasis on university and the vast majority of our Sixth Form students go on to higher education to pursue a wide range of courses. Others who choose a more vocational route are provided with the support and guidance they require to pursue careers in the forces, agriculture and industry.
In addition to the Careers Advisor, the Head of Sixth Form and the academic staff have a wealth of experience in guiding students through the minefield of university applications.
In particular, the College has considerable knowledge and expertise in guiding students to opportunities for study abroad. The IB Programme is highly valued by universities all over Europe, the United States and beyond. European universities offer hundreds of courses taught in English for a fraction of the UK tuition fees, so they are well worth considering.
There is also access to accurate and up to date Careers and Higher Education information using databases, career software packages and Library resources.
Do take a look on a free web resource, Susan Burke Careers, for free career related resources for students, parents and teachers as recommended by our Careers Advisor.
Parents can arrange to see the Careers Advisor at open evenings or contact her direct to discuss careers and/or Higher Education plans.
