It has been a busy few weeks for staff and students at the Prep School. Read on for some of our highlights!
The Year 6’s battled 40 mile an hour winds to walk the Yorkshire 3 peaks. Everybody made every peak and the sense of satisfaction was evident throughout the group. The physical challenge is already formidable for such young children but the teachers were also amazed by the mental toughness, the attitude of just keep putting one foot after the other was a great life lesson.
An amazing trip, congratulations to our Year 6.
On Monday 11 June, five schools met up on Bramcote Athletic Facility for the IAPS Athletics Competition for Years 5 and 6. This is the first time that Scarborough College Prep School has played host to the event, but we hope it won’t be the last.
It was a fantastic day, with so many of our students taking part in both track and field events. Even though we were not crowned overall winners of boys or girls (the honours went to Sedbergh and Bootham respectively), the Prep School saw some outstanding performances and a lot of determination!
Miss Hill’s intrepid Year 3 class took to the North Yorkshire Moors near Ravenscar to build on their Stone Age topic from the beginning of the year and get ready for learning about the Iron Age from September. The students spent their time looking at stones and mounds for evidence of Bronze and Stone Age settlements, putting together the clues from the landscape to work out what the stone markings might mean. They also spent time identifying the bedrock of the coast and flora and fauna they had studied over the past year.
Back in the classroom, students learned how to evaporate salt water to discover crystals and ways of dying cloth using flowers and plants. Thank you to everyone who came along and worked so enthusiastically.
Year 6 students from the Prep School and beyond spent Thursday 13 June getting ready for the next academic year with our annual Transition Day. Following on from taster lessons in the morning, the students were then taken to the North Yorkshire Waterpark for an afternoon of fun on the lake.
All the students had a great time meeting their new classmates for next year and we look forward to welcoming them into the Senior School in September.
Our Infants and Little Owls celebrated Father’s Day on Friday 14 June with a special Father’s Day assembly. Every student from each year group stood up and talked about how special their parents are – listing out their five favourite things about their dads and why their dad is the best. It was lovely to see the hall so full of parents – thank you for the amazing support you show our students on a daily basis.
Our Infants enjoyed a day trip out at North Yorkshire Water Park as part of the Yorkshire Pebbles programme. The activities were varied, both on the lake and in the new land-based adventure area, all aimed at helping them to build confidence and resilience. The children had a such a good time – the smiles on their faces in the photos tell an amazing story.
