Christmas has come early for two local pupils who, following their applications to Scarborough College in response to their Find the Scarborough Scholar campaign, have been chosen to share the large scholarship award for entry in September 2016. Lizzie Swift (Year 11 pupil from St Augustine's) and Holly Shepherdson (Year 8 pupil from Lady Lumley's) were selected from a large field of boys and girls all keen to show the College how multi-talented they are.
Headmaster Charles Ellison commented: "We were overwhelmed by the response from local families in this the very first year of the Award and the children that were selected to attend our assessment day were very impressive indeed. Not only were the vast majority extremely able academically, they also demonstrated remarkable abilities in the fields of music, drama and sport. Lizzie and Holly are ideal scholars who will undoubtedly thrive here at the College and we look forward to helping them achieve every ounce of their obviously high potential." The College created the Scarborough Scholar Award in recognition of its foundation as an educational charity almost 120 years ago back in 1896.
Mr Ellison continued: "The College's original mission to provide a very high quality education for local children remains as true today as it was in Victorian times and, having seen the incredibly positive response from our community to this campaign, we shall be ensuring our search for the Scarborough Scholar is an annual event from now on."
