A recent Saturday Activity Morning was a lively affair as dance was on the programme! Miss Hammond kindly agreed to run a dance morning which after some initial reticence proved a popular activity. Ten boys and girls assembled at the Junior Hall not quite knowing what to expect – would it be rock or rhumba, tap or tango, salsa or street or just plain disco?
Miss Hammond led the group through a lengthy but vigorous warm up that was so interesting and entertaining that even Mr Wilkie was forced to show one or two of his moves - it has to be said there was limited movement and very little if any rhythm! The boys and girls however were soon into the rhythm and it was not long before the first routine was introduced. Miss Hammond introduced the music and explained about the different moves for Bollywood dancing. Step by step the routine was put together and after an hour of hard work the first routine was complete.
Following the customary stop for chocolate snacks it was time for routine number two. This time it was a Street dance routine to the popular music ‘Singing in the Rain’. Once again expert tuition and enthusiasm from Miss Hammond resulted in great participation and interest from the children and another show dance began to take shape. There was even time in this one for some individual flair to be choreographed into the routine.
By 12.15 both routines were ready for the stage and there was just time to ‘tweak’ things a little before the parents arrived for picking up. They were treated to two short routines of the 2 dances which highlighted the excellent work and fun that we all had.
Thanks to Miss Hammond for giving up her time and making the morning so much fun and planting the seeds of interest in dance.
