Your 2015 Calendar has arrived!
Each year, one of the Bramcote Junior School Houses chooses a Charity for which to raise funds for. This year, Crews House have chosen to raise money for the Butterfly Thyroid Cancer Trust in Newcastle. There is a good reason why this Charity has been chosen….. one of the Junior School Teachers, Mr John Horton, has had need of their help and support in recent years.
Back in 2007, Mr Horton’s daughter Amy, who is an ex pupil of Scarborough College, was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. She was only 20 years old at the time and, as you can imagine, the news was devastating for her and her family. During Amy’s treatment, the Butterfly Thyroid Cancer Trust provided fantastic support through a very difficult time. Thankfully, although the cancer is quite rare, it can often be cured and Amy is one of the lucky ones. She has now made a full recovery and is moving forward with her life, qualifying as a Doctor in July 2014 and getting married in October.
The Trust has helped hundreds of other patients, but it receives no money from the Government and it is dependent on the generosity of donors to be able to continue its amazing work.
Crews House have been fundraising for the Butterfly Thyroid Cancer Trust since the beginning of the Autumn term, and their final effort for 2014 is the production of an amazing calendar featuring members of both Junior and Senior School staff dressed up as characters from history!
The Calendar will be available to buy, at a cost of £5, from Monday 1 December, from either the Junior or Senior School Reception. School will be open until 19 December so please phone or emails us to purchase a calendar even after term has finished. If we have any left over, they will be back on sale once we return to school on 6 January 2015.
Please support this very worthwhile charity by buying a calendar (or two) – if we are successful in selling all the calendars that we have had printed, we can raise over £600 for the Butterfly Thyroid Cancer Trust.
