Headmaster’s Update 7 February 2025

Dear Parents,

The last two weeks have been filled with achievements, hard work, and a real sense of community spirit.

Academically, we have had cause for celebration as well. Our Year 11 and Year 13 students received impressive mock exam results, a testament to their diligence and commitment to their studies. Our IB students are receiving high calibre of university offers, demonstrating just how well-prepared our students are for the next stage of their academic journeys.

Our sporting fixture calendar has been packed, with our teams showcasing their dedication and skill across multiple disciplines. It has been  a joy to see the standard of the teams, but more importantly, to witness the camaraderie and perseverance of our students in every match they play.  Sadly our staff rugby team are too good at coaching, hence their defeat to the pupils in a fun rugby game at lunchtime today.

The highlight of the past fortnight been the wonderful performances of Legally Blonde. If you have not yet had the opportunity to see it, I would strongly urge you to do so, as we still have some tickets remaining for Saturday’s show. Under the expert guidance of Mr Alex Weatherhill, as well as Mrs Sarah Golder, our talented students have brought this production to life with energy, enthusiasm, and remarkable talent. Special congratulations must go to students Kendall, Zac, Ellie, Will, and all the other budding actors who have created something truly special.

Looking ahead, the excitement continues as we prepare for our inaugural Charity Week, organised by our Sixth Form students. This promises to be a inspiring week, with activities including a fashion show, a hot dog stall, a sweet shop, and the much-anticipated staff vs. first-team netball match. Not to be missed is the Teacher vs. Teacher Sumo match – an event I suspect will be a particular highlight! Mr Kelly vs Mr Adams promises to be titanic contest after both turned down the opportunity to go against me.

Charity Week will be raising funds for two very worthy causes: UNICEF and our very own Mr Phil Wilson, who continues to make great progress in his recovery. We encourage everyone to support this brilliant initiative, and for those wishing to contribute further, more information about Mr Wilson’s GoFundMe campaign can be found here.

In terms of developments around the school, you may have seen in the news that we have now submitted planning permission for our new Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA), which will be located adjacent to the Astro. We are hopeful that approval will be granted soon, allowing us to begin construction before the summer. Additionally, planning permission has also been submitted for a new teaching block to replace the current Art and DT block. This new facility will nearly double our teaching space and provide three much-needed additional classrooms, greatly enhancing our learning environment.

Finally, I would like to extend my sincere thanks for the support you provide to your children in all their endeavours, whether it is helping with revision, driving them to many school events or simply sending them off to school with some spare change for a bake sale. Your encouragement and involvement are deeply appreciated and make all the difference.

With best wishes,

Mr Emmett
