My heartfelt congratulations to our Year 13 students, many of whom are now reaching the final stages of their IBDP examination period. These past few weeks have demanded enormous focus, discipline, and resilience – and I have every confidence that their hard work will be rewarded.
Year 11 have begun their examinations and I wish each of them the best of luck in the next few weeks. These assessments are the culmination of years of learning, and it has been inspiring to see the quiet determination of our students as they take on each paper.
On Thursday, Deepdale was transformed into a festival of colour for our very first Prep School Charity Colour Run, in aid of Action for Children. With 138 runners, 55 kilograms of powder, and an incredible atmosphere, the event was a great success. Pupils, staff, and parents all got involved – including a very saturated Mr Barker who was bombarded by every child on his lap. I personally did my best to remain colour-free, though my two daughters had other ideas! My thanks to Mrs Barnes and the Prep School staff for organising such a joyful event.
Despite the usual constraints of the exam season, our sporting calendar has been packed. Our cricket teams have been especially busy, and their results can be found on this link. From our Y3s to the Sixth Form students, they have certainly taken advantage of the sunshine.
At the Bramcote Athletics Track, Scarborough College pupils took part in two primary school meets over the last fortnight. The results were impressive, but what stood out more was the spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie. The joy on students’ faces was matched only by the encouragement they gave each other.
The first of our lunchtime concerts took place last week, thanks to the initiative of Sarah, our Head of the Performing Arts Committee and Senior Prefects. Emily, Ryder, and Toby from Year performed beautifully with a mix of piano and vocal performances. We look forward to more of these concerts in the future.
This year’s Gig on the Green will be taking place on Friday 20 June. The event will showcase an exciting array of student talent, from our house band to featured solo vocalists. Please make sure you book your tickets next week if you wish to attend.
Next week I will attend the Sixth Form Leavers’ Ball – always a poignant event in the College calendar. There’s a mix of relief (as the exam season comes to a close) and emotion, as we prepare to say goodbye to a remarkable group of students. We are incredibly proud of all they have achieved and look forward to hearing about the bright futures that await them, although we are not quite ready to see them leave the college!
We continue to see the values of compassion and leadership lived out by our pupils. Next Wednesday, around 20 staff and students will be running the Scarborough 5km Race for Life, in memory of our dear colleague and friend, Cheryl, who sadly passed away in March. If you wish to support them in this endeavour, please visit the team page. On 6–7 June, Johannes and Bohdan from the Lower Sixth are also organising a 24-hour charity run/walk at Bramcote Athletics Track to raise awareness and funds for Mr Wilson’s recovery. This student-led initiative is a powerful example of care in action – we will let you know more details once we have them.
I look forward to sharing more celebrations and milestones as the term continues. It is proving to be another busy term with your children excelling in all areas of school life.
