At Scarborough College all pupils have the opportunity to study for ten GCSE qualifications: six compulsory core subjects and four option subjects. The programme has been designed to ensure that pupils have a strong foundation for post-16 study, gain the qualifications that are valued by employers and universities, and make their first steps towards independence as learners and young people.

Following advice from subject leads and form tutors, pupils choose their four option subjects from the wide range of twelve courses we offer at GCSE. From Art to Physical Education, from Business to Spanish, you can see the breadth of option choices available on the list below.

As an independent boarding school which offers the IB in our sixth form, we promote international-mindedness and recognise the value of language learning in the modern world. All pupils are expected to choose at least one modern foreign language as one of their option subjects.

Learning Support gives you access to extra help and support with all aspects of your learning. You will have additional time to devote to your GCSE studies: classwork, coursework, revision and exam preparation in a supportive environment. You will also be given advice and guidance with developing all aspects of your learning, including study skills and techniques. Learning Support staff will help you identify personal targets specific to your needs and goals and support you as you try to achieve them.
Learning Support is an option for pupils who have been identified as having a specific need and are currently on the SEND register. It is agreed through discussion with the SENDCo. It is not a GCSE qualification and is usually taken in place of another subject. There is no set curriculum as support is tailored to the individual needs of pupils.

All pupils will be working towards three separate science GCSEs in Year 10. However, an alternative route, Dual Award (Trilogy) Science, may be recommended for some pupils. Any decision to switch from three separate sciences to Dual Award will be made in consultation with subject teachers and the Head of Science and made by January of Year 11 at the latest.
