College Students Shine in Maths Challenges

Mathematical talent has been on full display this term, starting with the Intermediate Maths Challenge on 29th January. This annual competition, which tests problem-solving skills without the use of a calculator, saw 70 of our top-set students from Years 9-11 rise to the challenge. Despite the demanding nature of the paper, our students performed well, demonstrating their logical thinking and numerical skills.

Further maths excellence followed as a team of students – Ben and Daphne from Year 8 and Aryana and Matthew from Year 9 – headed to The Mount School in York for the Regional Final of the Team Maths Challenge on 4th February. This day-long event was packed with puzzles, logic games, and collaborative problem-solving tasks, offering a fantastic opportunity for our mathematicians to test their skills against some of the best young minds in the region.

The Scarborough College team put in a strong performance, impressing with their teamwork and analytical thinking. Although they narrowly missed out on a podium place, their enthusiasm and dedication were evident throughout the competition.

Congratulations to all who took part!
