School Life

Here at Bramcote Junior School we believe in the pursuit of excellence in an atmosphere which encourages all children to grow and progress to the best of their ability.  In addition to our challenging academic programme, sport and enrichment activities set us apart and are integral to our aims for every child.

Children enjoy a full school day incorporating Games every day led by experienced coaches in rugby, football, hockey, netball and cricket.  Team sports are important and children are given opportunities to represent their House or School teams.  Our teams gain considerable success in local and regional competitions.  Individual sports are also encouraged and these include athletics, swimming and tennis.  In all cases the children benefit from the facilities at the Bramcote Sports Complex and the Scarborough College site.

The extra-curricular programme is extensive with both infant and junior children enjoying all kinds of after-school classes and activities.  These might include embroidery, music, a language club, chess or dance as well as opportunities for more sport or catching up on homework in a supervised prep session.  Music and Drama are extremely important and all children are able to enrol for individual tuition in musical instruments and can be entered for ABRSM examinations.  There are also individual and group lessons available for the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art exams at every level.

The School building is modern and purpose built; our classrooms are light, airy and well resourced (including computers in every classroom) and most have interactive white boards.  Children are able to use the Senior School facilities too, including specialist Science labs, Art room, Design Technology workshop and Music School.

The academic, cultural and enrichment programmes are supplemented by many trips and visits which support children’s learning and enhance their social development.  In particular, there is considerable emphasis on the benefits of outdoor pursuits and children from Year 4 upwards have the opportunity to experience camping, walking and cooking outdoors.

Furthermore, the School day is structured to assist busy parents opening at 8.00am with inclusive wrap-around care available until 6.00pm daily.
